Madras Cafe - Womad Festival Reading

Food stall

Madras Cafe

Charity cafe, where all the staff are volunteers and profits go to Indian aid work.

The dishes are a range of Indian snacks and meals, of a good quality and a great price. They have to think a little about what's vegan, but it is pretty obvious, and it's mainly the odd sauce that is not – so ask for an alternative one that is.

There is extensive seating and tables in their large tent.

Directions

Opposite the BBC Radio 3 Village Stage

At WOMAD there is only one thing that we always check out – and that's the Madras Cafe. I think you aught to know it has a cult following, we often see the same people there year after year. Because it's brilliant and has one of the best food stalls and atmospheres in the whole festival, and that's saying a lot.

The Madras Café is probably my favourite eating place at WOMAD, a good place to meet up with friends, relax and enjoy a pleasant meal in peaceful surroundings. Handy location for listening to excellent music from the Village Stage.

The food, made with great care, is consistently tasty and satisfying.

I like that the Madras Café, run by a large team of volunteers donates all the money the restaurant makes at WOMAD to Action Village India (http://www.actionvillageindia.org.uk/). A good place for a change.
